5 Tips for a Fun, Safe and Healthy Summer
Summer vacation is in full swing and we want to ensure that while you and your family are out soaking up the sun, you are also taking the proper precautions to protect your health. We are sharing 5 tips to help you have a fun, safe and healthy summer.
Wellness Advice from Our Los Altos Chiropractor
1. Listen to your body. Our wellness center focuses on total body health and paying attention to what our body needs to prevent illness and promote balance. It can be easy to allow ourselves to settle into “vacation” mode during the summer months. However, use this time of extra daylight by spending it outdoors swimming, biking or simply just taking a stroll around the neighborhood.
2. Drink plenty of water. The heat can quickly zap our body’s energy, especially if we are not well hydrated. Ensure that you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Carry a refillable water bottle with you at all times so that you can replenish your supply whenever there is a water faucet nearby.
3. Eat your vegetables. Summer barbecues and pool parties can mean chips, dip and other snacks that might not meet the recommended nutritional requirements. Enjoy a hamburger off the grill, but stack it high with fresh vegetables. Add a piece of watermelon or a scoop of fruit salad as your side to help maintain your healthy eating habits.
4. Relax. If there is ever a time to slow down and recharge, summertime is it. Allow yourself to take time out of each day to unwind and refresh. Schedule massage appointments to alleviate tense muscles and reduce your stress levels.
5. Protect your skin. Before you step outside, make sure that you apply sunscreen with a high level of SPF to prevent sun damage. Reapply as necessary, if you will be outside most of the day. Do not forget about your head as it can easily get burnt as well without the proper protection.
